WELCOME TO THE APPLIED MUSIC PROGRAM!
This program carries with it many benefits and responsibilities!
BENEFITS: Benefits include the opportunity to work with an accomplished teacher in a conservatory-style music environment. During this four semester program you will be surrounded by other dedicated students, receive individual attention, free lessons, performance preparation, a great entry on your resume for transfer to a university or conservatory, and preparation for the professional world of music. I have designed the curriculum to be studied for both violin and viola students in the Applied Music Program at Palomar College.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Each student will sign a contract with the college indicating a willingness to meet the requirements of the program. It is the responsibility of each student to follow all of the rules and guidelines laid out in this handbook. These include adequate practice, attendance, and enrollment simultaneously in MUS-220 and 222, as well as a performance ensemble on your primary instrument, unless enrolled in Applied Music as a pianist. The ensembles available are MUS-148, 151, 152, 155, 157, 158, 172, 184 and 198. Program guidelines also include following all the guidelines set forth in this packet.
PRIVATE LESSONS: Each Applied Music student will be assigned one private teacher for all four of your semesters in the program. As your private teacher the student and I will arrange a weekly private lesson time, during which you will meet for a one-hour lesson.
